Scanner Tips

• Download the operating manual(s) for your scanner model to your PC to have them readily available. The manuals include information on cleaning, repair, consumable parts and resetting document counters.
• Scanners must be cleaned regularly
  • Refer to the manual for your scanner model for cleaning instructions.
  • Cleaning and consumable kits are available from the manufacturer, but a cheaper alternative is to use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and a lint free cotton cloth. PC monitor cleaning pads also work well.
• Each agency owns the scanners and are therefore responsible for any costs for maintenance, repairs, and consumables. The agency is also responsible for purchasing extended warranties from the manufacturer or their local equipment maintenance provider.
• All scanners have consumables (parts that must be replaced regularly) including Pick Roller, Pad Assy, and Brake Roller (depending your scanner model).
  • The replacement schedule depends on the volume of scanning and scanner type. Generally, consumables should be replaced at least once a year.
• Reset the document counter after replacing a consumable. The document counter is used to measure when to send alerts to replace a consumable and will continue to alert until it is reset. Instructions to reset the document counter are available in the manuals.
